Pollution liability isn't one type of coverage

Pollution liability responds to claims that general liability policies commonly exclude — contamination, fuel or chemical releases and similar damage caused by a contractor's work or by a spill in transit. The exposure looks different depending on the trade and where a release happens, which is why jobsite pollution, completed-operations pollution and transportation pollution are often addressed separately rather than with one policy.

The article currently filed here, the plumbing contractor article on auto, equipment and pollution exposure, shows how these exposures come together for one trade. For a broader introduction, our Coverage & Endorsements article on why pollution cover gets skipped explains where the gap usually comes from. A spill from a truck or trailer is a transportation exposure and is covered on our fleet resource pages rather than the contractors pollution page.
